Years ago, John Paul II wrote a letter to Padre Pio asking for his prayers, to which the holy monk responded with a miracle.
In 1947, the newly ordained priest Fr. Karol Wojtyla (John Paul II) visited Father Pio to meet the famous Cappuccinian monk. It was a short visit, but Wojtyla was not forgotten, as he later wrote a letter to Father Pio asking for prayers.

The letter was written in 1962 (in Latin), when Wojtyla was Bishop of Krakow. The following is an extract from his letter entitled 'Preparing the Millennium Pope'.
" Reverend Father, please pray for a woman in her 40s, mother of four daughters, who spent five years in a concentration camp in Germany during the war. Her life is now threatened by cancer. Ask God, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin, to have mercy on this woman and her family."

John Paul II never received a reply from Father Pio, but a few days later a miracle occurred. John Paul II wrote a letter to Father Pio expressing his joy.
"Reverend Father, the woman from Krakow recovered immediately on 21 November before the operation. I thank God. And I thank you too."

Not surprisingly, John Paul II became a strong supporter of St Pio and as Pope, had him canonised in 2002.
